Just to clarify what happened--did the tripod bearing(looks like it sounds with a boot) on the inner end of the axle shaft pull out of the inner driver(a cup filled with grease), or did the inner driver with it's splined shaft pull out of the transmission? if it's the former, your transmission could be fine, and you just need to replace the tripod bearing and the mount or whatever caused it to come out. If the latter--it's kinda hard for the driver and shaft to come out of the transmission on it's own-- things still might not be that awful.
