My 900 went at 60K miles, 95CSE at 220K and our 1988 9KT is still going original at 260K miles. This is not a "normal" wear item so you really don't know where the failure trend is at. You could simply buy a new one only to have it's quality be far less then the 150K unit you still have sitting in there. Just a roll of the dice and spending of money with little guarantee IMHO.

Since this is a slightly PIA job I would at the least suggest buy a used or inexpensive backup and simply wait for the day to come. Sure the location and tow job may be an inconvenience but at least you don't have to wait on a back and you can slap it in hopefully within an hour or in a parking lot.

I just don't think swapping out DI cassettes, fuel pumps, injectors ect to "play it safe" is really that safe. These things go at all years and mileage that seems to be more a function of quality control then usage.

Now with that being said since they are cooled by the fuel some think that if you are prone to keeping your tank above a couple gallons it may have a longer life then those who "live" but driving their cars on fumes (like my mom!)
