The obvious caveat on the fuel pump wiring is that in the case of a crash, the fuel pump may not shut off. The main reason for for enabling the pump only when the engine is turning is to prevent the pump from pushing fuel into the possibly wrecked front end in an accident.
As a minor caveat, I would be careful not to leave the key in the ON position with the engine not running for more than a few seconds. Instead of the pump coming on for only a brief time before the engine cranks, it'll now be running all the time the key is ON. Not a biggie, but with the pump pressurizing the system fully, there will be some leakage past the injectors. Leave this long enough, and you'll be putting a lot of raw gas into the cylinders. Not a good thing. This would come up if you had the key ON but the engine not running while troubleshooting some other system.
Now, the hijack - I think the (long) note came from the days of dial up with 2400 or 14.4kbaud dial-up. That was a time when you'd carefully choose the threads you'd read, because you were making a commitment in time. Nowdays, even with 56k dial-up, long ain't long anymore. And I should know, as I rarely have a post that doesn't run three chapters.
