Whenever the computer is disconnected, it will take a few hours of constant driving for the idle to be reset. This is not a vacuum issue.
When I have had to change battery or do any work requiring disconnecting the battery, my computer forgets where the idle setting is. It is actively searching parimeters for three hours until it runs correctly again. I have a '97 Aero.
I also have a small leak on the rear main seal and consructed a plate made of thin-gauge aluminum sheet from Home Depot that I bent in an arch over the catalitic convertor - I cut it to shape and jammed it in there. I catches a few oil drops a day and they get dispersed and dried out into a tar on that plate instead of vaporizing on the hot cat. I have no oil-loss issues since it is literally a few drops per day. Also, I think it helps that I use non-synthetic oil. My theory is that it plugs leaky gaskets and seals more than synthetic with its super-detergents. I am from the school of standard oil changed more often than synthetic finding all of the gaps in my ole '97 Aero.
I think if you drive your car for three hours (running time) that your idle will be correct. You may also have to burn off some old oil residue from your previous leak a while until you don't smell it anymore.
Enjoy your fixed car! 2k in a good machine should last a long long time.
