Exhaust lex pipe bend orientation?

I've had the starter to cat bracket for a '93 turbo re-welded and I'm putting it back in. I've got the entire exhaust loosened now and I'm about to tighten everything and I ask: What's the correct orientation for the bend in the flex pipe? Should the bend be up or down? I've managed to convince myself of both orientations over the years and I'd like to know the correct answer.
