I've got a 1995 Saab 9000 I've been reconditioning, cleaning up, and fixing everything on my 9000.
I'm curious what features I can add from other Saabs or other cars in general? Many manufactures have a certain degree of interchangeability either straight out or with some modification with their other cars. Some of these are rather vain and stupid, some of them can be quite convenient. This is just what I can think of that would be "nice" in no particular order. It also updates the car a little bit.
1) Key. It would be nice to have an updated key. Maybe even one with a built in remote. Did the 9000s key die with the 9000?
2) Auto-Dimming mirror. No real point, just would be nice to have. Maybe one with a compass or some other doodads on it? The problem I see with this is the mirror has a little bracket that holds it up and not windsheld glue. Anything similar or close available?
3) Black Panel. If I really wanted to I could add this with a switch to the lights, but I would like it Saabs way. I wonder why the 9000 didn't get it.
4) Steering wheel controls. I would imagine the problem with this isn't the steering wheel, it's making the buttons work. Since I already have cruise control, the only interesting thing I can think to put here is radio or have an extra button hooked to bluetooth controller or to a soon to build carputer. Maybe I can move cruise control accel and decel commands. Who knows. Any options?
5) Cooled seats. I've read that 900 seat brackets are wider than the 9000s, maybe I can fab up my own if the seats are the same width? Living in California I would kill to try some nice cooled seats.
6)Center arm rest. I've seen them for 9000s, they are rare.
7)Compass. A compass would be nice.
8) Auto Headlights. It would be nice if a swap of the headlight switch, a sensor, and some wiring could yield auto headlights. I don't like daytime running lights, I plan to disable them. I basically want an auto mode, on mode, and off mode.
9) Rain sensing wipers.
10) Sunroof that closes when the ignition is turned off. One thing I can't do with my modified circuits is have the sunroof close with the rest of the windows. Is there a stock relay that will close it only if it has been opened?
Fortunately, I'm all finished with one touch up and down on all windows including sunroof. Automatic roll up with lock of the car with temperature venting over 100 degrees vents windows 2 inches and closes them when cool or I can choose to close the windows and keep them closed on lock. Plus new power power outlets in the center console and rear ashtrey and XM are working well.
What other features are good to add to the 9000s?
