Starting problem for the experts 1990 CD Turbo Posted by JeffR [Email] (#2860) [Profile/Gallery]

I have a 1990 CD Turbo, Automatic, 146K. Starts fine in the morning. It has that timing chain rattle, but seems not to be a problem. When warm, sometimes when I turn the key I get NOTHING, starter doesn't engage, no click. Sometimes if I turn the lights off ( I leave them on all the time), it will crank and start right up. BUT sometimes if I drive it and make 3 stops within a short period of time it'll pull the old "no crank" and when it finally does crank, "no start". An hour later, it starts right up.
OK, let me have it!
