The BPC is the only reliability issue on my '96 CSE. The last one lasted about 6-8 months or so, then would, at its option, work normally or give me over boost. The one that preceded it, which was replaced under warranty, went belly up in 3 months and would only give base boost. The current one, which has been on board for maybe 6 months, seems to be fine. At least BPC failure doesn't disable the car, but it is annoying.
I have had some success cleaning them, as have others. I've used a CRC Electronic Parts cleaner. Worked for a while. The CRC stuff is nice because it doesn't leave a residue.
My indy says its a fairly common 9K problem, but interestingly does not see it much on the NG900 and OG 9-3 models where the BPC is mounted horizontally. I haven't gotten around to mounting mine horizontally but I think a couple here have. It makes some sense, but there's no quantitative info on it.
One issue, according to eEuroparts, is when people use low restriction air filters, like a K&N. They say those let more small grit through, and since the BPC is essentially in the airstream, the grit can jam the moving parts of the valve. Could be. I don't know first hand.
There is also an issue of failed transistors in the ECU causing BPC failure. Others here are much more knowledgeable on this than I. They'll probably add to this thread, but you can also search on it.
I have bought 2 BPCs from eEuro (one of which was replaced under warranty) but they are now only giving a 60-day warranty on BPCs. I paid more and got the current one from my indy who will warranty it for a year. We'll see how it goes. I also have a spare from a boneyard, so I have a back up for the moment.
Good luck. Just look at this as one of those "Saab Things" that makes these cars so unique. LOL
