Yes I've heard of people that have done it. At best case, part of the subframe and slightly jack up the engine. The bolts under the exhaust are a pain to get to and if you have a pull the exhaust, hopefully the manifold/turbo bolts are good.
I ended up pulling the engine, especially if you want to get the lower end. I just found it easier to pull it then work upside down on the garage floor.
I would jack the car up and look underneath and see how hard/easy it would be to get the bolts and investigate exhaust bolts.
