I am only familiar with the system on my 88, but I would say it sounds like your accumulator(aka da bomb) may be bad. It creates a pressure reserve that keeps the pump from running too much and overheating. If your abs light is functioning properly, jab the brake pedal repeatedly and count the number of jabs it takes to make the light come on. IIRC 12-15 is good and anything below 8 is suspect. Be very careful that your pump doesn't burn out from running too much. They're expensive new and getting scarce used.
