92 Saab 9000 Starter frustrations Posted by Adam [Email] (#344) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Adam) on Mon, 3 Dec 2007 19:35:19 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Have 92 Saab 9000 with 120K miles. Originally bought the vehicle in Alaska and in July 07 we drove to Phoenix, AZ. Once we arrived in the drier, warmer areas of British Columbia, the car wouldn't crank right up after running for some time and even after sitting for 8 hours. All the electricals would fire up, lights and radio, but the car would not turn over. We had this problem very seldomly in Alaska, only occuring on a random "warm" day in the summer and the problem would not persist.
We had the solenoid replaced in Vancouver and the problem persisted along our drive to Arizona. It definietly did not help that we were headed to Phoenix in the middle of the summer. Once we arrived in Arizona, we immediatley took the car to a dealer and explained our starter troubles. The dealer put in a new ignition switch. The problem persisted.
After a couple of months of not wanting to shoulder another costly repair we tried to overlook the starter issue. The general pattern went like this, car started in morning when cool, if the car had been running and we tried to start soon after it would not be a instant start but several to many cranks and banging on starter. The car would sometimes break this pattern and start while warm and not start while cool. The car starting, seemed to get worse even as the weather as cooled. Last week we finally through our arms in the air and put it in the shop once again to hopefully correct the crappy cranking. We put in a new battery after they told us the battery and alternator were good. The shop put in a reman Starter with a 2year warranty and the cranking appears to have improved but we will still go to start the car.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
