happened to my car after windshield replacement Posted by geoguy [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: HIgh Pitch Squeel, Skip, Mon, 3 Dec 2007 17:08:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There is a piece of plastic trim, just below the windshield's bottom edge. I think the rear edge of this trim was supposed to be overlapped by the bottom of the black rubber seal around the windshield, but my windshield was replaced at a body shop while some paintwork was being done, & the plastic trim piece was likely re-installed after the windshield was already in place.
Upshot was that that trim piece would vibrate like crazy at highway speed. Sort of like blowing over the top of a bottle, but much higher pitched.
My temporary fix was putting a piece of black gaffer tape (like duct tape, only meant for outdoor use) over the edge of the plastic where I suspected the noise was coming from . . . that silenced it, so I later ran a little bead of black silicone caulking between the back side of the plastic trim & the gasket around the windshield.
