since you have now suspected the mechanic may have screwed up...

You should go back and check the cam bearings are correctly placed from 1 to 10. and the cam bearing bolts are also correctly placed. The inboard bolts (please verify this) are slotted.

Not to mention every bolt should be correctly torqued.
