wasn't clear if it was from threaded pressure fitting connection, if i just hadn't tightened that last 1/4 turn necessarily, or if it was the mangled end of the fuel line so i cut it off, then got some 1/4" ID flexible fuel hose and used Abusot's method of forcing that over the plastic line as far as I could, then double clamping it with fuel injector/line clamps, and then doing the same at the ribbed end of the damper/fuel line adapter. so far, it looks ok. i gotta wait for the water i sprayed on the engine to dry off (to get rid of fuel spills), to see if i get a fuel damp spot around that area again.
