R. Frist... I agree with you (As does science) about light scattering. I run Sylvania Silverstars in the summer (sometimes with the 9005 modification) and switch back to regular bulbs in the winter for the same reason as you. (It really doesn't rain between early June and late September around here, and fog only occurs in the winter.)
As for the fogs not being independent of the headlights, how often would you use that feature (my 9000 works that way, but I have almost never had to use it)? If the fogs are the only lights on in the front, you certainly can't see very far, especially if the fog's so thick that the low beams are worthless. Just wondering how often you do the fogs-only thing. (BTW, I think that it's silly to not allow it, as on your 9-5).
(I was born in the Central Valley of CA where the fog can be pea-soup thick. My dad occasionally drove to work with his door open, looking at the center line. He'd pull off the road when he heard any other vehicle. Spooky-thick fog. I live in the foothills now where it doesn't get that thick.)
