Hey, Jeff
I also have a '93 Aero with a jumpy shifter. Please post any findings. Here's what I've found (slightly different experiance):
One day driving I pulled out from a stop and on the shift into 2nd, the shifter pulled back right out of its socket! I pulled off the road and pulled the boot up. The ball of the shifter is held in place by a small plastic ring kept in place by a spring. Mine had slipped and come loose. I put it back in place and re-attached the spring...only to have it slip again soon afterwards. I assume that these plastic parts have worn too thin for the normal catches to hold them, but with out a tight fit in the shifter ball (pivot point) the shifter jumps around like crazy.
Maybe my situation was caused by some of the suggestions you got (ie. motor mounts)
Does anyone know a source for replacing all the plastic parts in the ball pivot area????
Thanks
