Thanks for the responses to my problem.
The solution came from Gerald Reeves (UK)
Quote: my 9000 2.3T had a similar engine cut-out problem when the engine/engine bay became hot (eg stuck in traffic). I replaced the crankshaft position sensor but did not solve the problem. I then replaced the MAP sensor which is fixed to the false bulkhead (carpet) and attached to the inlet manifold (via vacuum pipe), and this fixed the problem. The MAP sensor functioned OK when cold but became 'open circuit' when hot ! Car would not restart until it cooled down.
I replaced the MAP Sensor with a used one (from the UK) cost with postage AUS$37. A unit from a local car wrecker is AUS$120 and a new one here is AUS$500!!!!!!!!!!!!
