The first candidate is the belt tensioner shock. The spring inside it will keep the belt under tension even on a bad shock, but without the damping fluid, the tensioning pulley will bounce, which can lead to the belt slipping.
The second candidate is the harmonic balancer (crank pulley). If the pulley is starting to separate from the hub it can wobble or slip, which could cause the belt to slip.
