If when you start the car, the ABS light is off, but then the ABS light comes on at some point when you are driving, then it is the ABS sensor at the wheel that is at fault.
I have the same issue at the moment, but I am working through higher priority issues at the moment, but the searches I have done on his board say that the sensor may just need cleaning.
There is a sensor at each wheel but apparently it is usually the front left that goes first (ie gearbox side, rather than fanbelt side).
