50-350K miles Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Tue, 15 Apr 2008 08:30:39 In Reply to: 1994 cs, David, Mon, 14 Apr 2008 10:01:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The engines can last for 300K or more with good maintenance. This one has had some decent maintenance to last this long. But with those kind of miles, you're going to want to do a compression test and a few other things, because it could only have 226K of life in it.
There's a lot more than just the engine - how's the transmission? The wheels have gone round-and-round a few times - how's the suspension and brakes? Body in good shape? I've seen plenty of cars with engines that were as strong as an ox, but the rest of the car was manure.
Assume any car with 225K is going to need some work, and will have stuff break. Things wear out. I wouldn't touch it unless I knew it had been well maintained, and you had the documentation to prove it. That documentation also tells you when the last time something was done, so you'll know when it's due for replacement.
As a CS, it may have the Low Pressure turbo (LPT), but that's a tough call, because in some years you could buy a CS body style with the full pressure turbo engine. LPT engines tend to be less stressed than FPT, but again your mileage may vary. I'll take a FPT that's been well maintained over a LPT that has missed a few oil changes and has some old coolant.
