Alright. Sorry for so many posts on the forum here. I've been trying lots of different things to get to the bottom of this issue, my evap CEL, and I think i've got it.
Does anyone have a diagram, pinout, anything for an OBD1 1995 2.3L Turbo engine circuit? Or anything close? How about the OBD1 tech2 data connector diagram or pinout? Or anything close? There is only so much I can do using these OBD2 diagrams and checking to see if they apply to my OBD1 setup. I'm making several assumptions that could bite me.
One of the differences between the OBD1 cars and OBD2 cars is that on OBD1 cars there is a VIO/WHT wire that connects to pin 38 on the ECU and pin 29 of the EDU on the instrument cluster together. Any idea what this does? OBD1 cars do not have this wire. OBD1 EDUs and OBD2 EDUs even have different part numbers.
I don't really need to know what it does inorder to make it work, but I am extra curious!
Another one of the differences between OBD1 cars and OBD2 cars is that on OBD1 cars there is a YEL/RED wire at pin 21 and a YEL/RED wire at pin 27. The two pins, 21 and 27 are connected together in the harness. I have been told that the wire at pin 21 allows the ECU to monitor what is happening at pin 27, in order to monitor the EVAP valve. Pin 27 goes to the EVAP valve on BOTH OBD1 cars and OBD2 cars. It's just that my 97 harness does not have a pin 21 on the ECU connector. Obviously it was changed.
This explains why you, and another that I know of, get EVAP CELs when using OBD1 computers in their OBD2 cars. My setup is exactly opposite. And OBD2 engine and engine harness with an OBD1 ECU and chassis harness.
I'm trying to put an OBD2 data connector on my harness with an OBD2 computer. Since the data connectors are a part of the chassis harness.
