I have a 94 9000CS Turbo with 130k miles that hasn't been driven enough. It sits in the drive oftentimes for several weeks without being started. THe car has a relatively new battery (1 year) and recent (w/in 2 years) alternator both installed by the same local gas station. The few times I drove the car Last fall/winter, I noticed a faint red glow on the dashboard warning icon, which I attrributed to the infrequent use.
The last couple of times I've driven the car, I had to jump start it. A couple of weeks ago, I mistakenly crossed the wires jump-starting it -- absent-mindedly connected the negative to the positive battery terminal, and touched the positive to the engine block, with the expected healthy display of sparks. Quiclkly realizing the error, I switched the wires, started it and drove off to a local retailer, keeping the revs higher than usual to charge the battery. The car was running just fine -- normally, in fact -- during the ride and when I parked it. But when I returned from the store, the alarm was plaintively squealing and the battery obviuously was almost out of juice. After getting a jump from a fellow motorist, I drove the car straight home and parked it, unable to deal with it agt the time. A couple of weeks later, same routine, but this time it fired weakly at best, then wouldn't start at all, even with a beefier jump from a AAA service truck.
My questions are... What is/are the most likely problem/s? And, Where/should I start my diagnotic search? (I have a multimeter, but electricity's not my thing...) I don't want to tow it and merely be at the mercy of the garage.
Thanks for any advice.
