Do you have a Bentley manual, or can you borrow one? The top end of the 2.3 engine is basically the same as the 2.0 in the Bentley, how to align the cams and all that, great pictures too. Torque values the same, valve cover and gaskets and torques the same, all in all a reasonable investment for several of the items.

As another said, get the engine turned over to the TDC mark on the flywheel and look at the alignment marks on the camshaft bracket, the camshafts, and the camshaft gears. there is a subtle "V", more like a Checkmark, on the camshaft brackte, a line on the camshaft, and a line on the other side of the camshaft wheels, all this on both intake and exhaust. you are not supposed to turn the engine via the camshafts, however if you take the plugs out, in neutral, you can move it a *little* to get the alignment marks to be in alignment. Not talking about alot of turning, just enough to take it from you can see the mark on the camshaft to having that mark aligned, no more.

Also, the number of links between the intake and exhaust is the magic number 16. starting at the tooth that is aligned with the line on the outside of the camshaft gear count to the other camshaft gear where the tooth even with that same line is... it should be exactly 16.
