I thought that you might have missed the rear switches, it's easy to overlook them :) !
If you are talking about the short, approximately six-inch pieces of cable housing, I believe that they are similar to bicycle brake cable, which is a plastic sheath over a spiral-wound metal housing. If you are truly ambitious, which means disassembling the part completely, perhaps a couple of pieces of cable housing can be substituted. On the other hand, the right rear window regulator (a very low demand piece) can be found on car-part for $20, which makes a lot of disassembly work a waste of time.
