The plugs were one of my first suspects; I pulled them out (NGK Iridiums - roughly 30,000 miles on them.) All was not entirely well with the plugs. The gap had widened significantly - interestingly enough, the center electrodes were fine; the outer electrodes (ground) had been uniformly rounded out from the inner side, creating a large gap. Replaced them with good old NGK BCPR7ES-11Vs, gapped the plugs to .9mm. Also checked out the DI unit (approx. 18 months old, new from eEuro), removed the inner cover - coils were all full of oil, no leaks, really SLIGHT bit of medium/light gray oxidation on the coil contact "buttons". Took really fine sand paper, and made all the buttons nice and shiny, took each spring out and lengthened them about 3mm (to insure good contact.) Cleaned up the pins in the DI connector. Fired it up - sounded a bit smoother immediately, runs better during stumble-prone rev zone, but still stumbles a bit. BTW, does the epoxy in the DI unit always look smooth? I have one area around number one coil where the epoxy looks thicker and rough on the surface compared with the rest of the cassette. Rest of the epoxy is almost glass smooth. I would really hate to think that the degradation I saw on my iridium plugs has started a down-hill cycle in my DI. Reference how the plugs looked - cyls. 1, 2 and 4 looked very good. Light gray/tan on the insulator, black on the outer ring and ground electrode. Number 3 plug also had a good-looking insulator, but the ground electrode had a bit of a light-gray/white build-up on the ground electrode. I saved the plugs - if you'd like, I'll post some pictures.
