The two buttons to press are AUTO and Vent (<=>). It'll show a "0" and run through fan speeds, vent positions, etc. If it returns to your temperature, there were no faults and the self-cal and self-test is complete. If it shows a number like 1-9, there were faults. The test I mentioned earlier is for the ACCI; this is for the ACCII.
I'm assuming you have ACCII - you didn't mention the year of your car (always useful). ACCII cars have the "OFF" switch on the panel.
Yes, lots of things can go wrong. No Cold Air is along the lines of "My car isn't' moving, what could it be?" It could be the the thing making the cold air (the AC) isn't working, or it is working, and the cold air can't get to you (air mixer). And the AC can sound like a complex system, but it's pretty much a chain of safety off switches in series. And anything with multiple parts can break in multiple ways.
