Daryl,
I just had the same thing happen. Have looked all over inside the pan, with a fiber optic scope and can't find the float. I did find the magnet from the float arm though.(removed it)
Did you leave it in or remove the pan? I really don't want to remove the pan, it sound like a formula for more problems. What could the float hit to cause damage or get chewed up?
