Another question - dash switch for headlights

On the dashboard, there is a switch, to the left of the steering wheel, so that you can turn off the headlights, dim them, or have them full on. It has three positions as am sure everyone who has a 9000 knows.

I usually keep my lights on all the time - but sometimes when I am stopped, and want to keep the engine running (when it is -15 it can be chilly), but don't want to have the headlights on I would switch them off.

Since my accident, I have not been able to use the switch. Lights will go off when I switch off the engine onlhy. Have been told that the whole thing needs to be replaced, taking off the dash, etc.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to see what the problem is?
