No codes for you Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Tue, 30 Dec 2008 21:40:42 In Reply to: ABS Light, Kurt, Tue, 30 Dec 2008 16:20:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Reading out ABS codes by the 'light flash' method only worked for '89-'93. In '94 Saab went to the New and Improved ABS, and codes can only be read out by a scan tool - so you're stuck with a dealer or an Saab indy.
Does the light come on and stay on, or does the light go out, but come on once the car starts moving? If it comes on and stays on, it is likely a bad sensor, and sometimes you can use an ohm meter to see which one. If it goes out, but comes on once you start moving, especially intermittently, then it's likely a dirty sensor ring. As to which one, either clean them all or go to a dealer.
If it is a dirty ring, it is worthwhile to clean them all. The problem is metal shavings from semi-metallic brake pads and off the rotor, combined with road gunk. If one wheel is gunked up, it is reasonable to assume the others are, too. One trips first, but you might as well do them all, because you'll be at it again shortly. Or just try trial and error - the worst that will happen is you clean up the sensor rings and do preventative maintenance.
