I think he meant he purchase a new one plus the gasket.
Yes, clean everything with a cloth, brake cleaner is ok, you want the area very clean so you can check for new leaks, you should also do an oil change as the level may pour out the hole you are working in, drain the oil and refill after you do the sender swap. Be careful with the gasket, put a bit of motor oil on your finger and wet it and then stretch over the sender onto the new unit, from the "bobber" end, 10mm bolt heads, 1/4 drive works well, just snug and don't over torque. clean out the contacts on the connector and if they are pushing out of the gray holder put RTV in from the back side and let it sit overnight to harden and keep the wires in place.
I have a couple of 92's and have done this a couple of times myself.
