Follow-up solutions on oil drip on exhaust (kinda long) Posted by JeffR [Email] (#2860) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JeffR) on Sun, 11 Jan 2009 12:02:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I was having a pretty bad oil drip onto the exhaust on my 1995 CSE (113K). I could smell and see smoke rising from under the hood coming off the exhaust pipe and/or catalytic converter.
I have since added some stop-leak to the power steering and have seen a drastic reduction to the problem.
Of course, the car still likes to drip once in a while. Not sure if it's power steering fluid or motor oil, probably both.
HERE'S WHAT I WAS WONDERING: How about wrapping the exhaust and Cat with a header and exhaust wrap?
I read this from the Heatshield Products website:
*Exhaust wraps help to retain heat in your exhaust system, which incr- eases horsepower while reducing radiant heat damage. By wrapping the header and exhaust system it maintains hotter exhaust gases, decreases the density, and allows the exhaust gas to exit the system faster! Greater exhaust scavenging is produced and lowers intake temperatures: that equals more horsepower.*
I may just do this for the reasons above and to stop that annoying oil burning problem.
Anyone have any positive or negative thoughts about doing this?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
