The intercooler cools the intake air to make it denser, but that's a relative cooling - not like it's a fridge! The metal of the turbo itself will inevitably transfer heat from the engine and, especially, the exhaust to the intake air: plus the intercooler is located behind the radiator so receives warmed air (which is why it's moved to the front in some performance-oriented installations). I guess just moving air through any system heats it up to some degree. Finally, the engine compartment of a turbo car is pretty tight with plenty of hot plumbing in there. That's why batteries don't seem to last forever.
