Heater Core Experience

I have several SAABs and rely really heavily on this board, so I thought I'd contribute my recent heater core experience.
The heater in my wife's 1996 9000 was steadily blowing cooler and cooler air. I confirmed the coolant was topped off. I checked the mixer flap - it worked fine. I read one experience where a stuck open thermostat lead to an engine that was too cool. I replaced the thermostat, but no improvement.
I then suspected a clogged heater core. I knew it had a slow leak, and I had one ready to install, but didn't want to do the job in the frigid temperatures. I checked the temp of both hoses - hot going in and hot returning...considerably hotter than the air in the cabin. Boo.
Finally I got around to changing the heater core. I did the blower motor while I was in there (thank goodness for quasimotors.com).
Long story short - I dissected the heater core and found the plastic inside it that separates the inlet from the outlet had deteriorated. Water was flowing in as quickly as it flowed out without passing through the core. I'm lucky she had heat at all. Additionally most of the tubes through the core were clogged.
If your heat ain't hot - this could easily be the culprit.
