I'm hopefully coming to a close for this. But I've come up to a point were I'm a bit confused. The crankshaft pulley notch lined up eith the mark on the crankcase and the engine at TDC. I installed the sprockets and the sprocket marks were perpendicular with the cam retaining caps. And the notches on the cams were very close to the marks on the caps also.

I didn't use zip ties on the sprockets and the chain but what I did was mark it with nail polish. I marked the sprocket in a couple of spots just to have a double reference. I also counted the links between the both sprocket markings which comes to 15, as per a posting by dbried when he did his HG. So when I put everything on it was exactly the way it came off. Ok, so everything is on, I then installed the chain tensioner and when that went in it automatically extended and tightened up. As a test "turn" I turned the crankshaft, at no point did I hear the tensioner click anymore so I assumed that the chain was on there tight.

So, as I was turning it one thing I noticed is that the original nail polish marks at no time lined up again with each other, no matter how many times I turned the crank. Logic would dictate that eventually they would eventually line up, right? The closest they came was 4 links apart, if you know what I mean.

So, is my timing off? I've turned the crank probably 30-35 times so far and for nothing do the polish marks meet up again. I'm so close yet so far. What would I need to do to get it set right? I'd hate to turn on the engine and break a valve. Even though the polish marks don't meet, I can get the crank, sprockets and camshaft notches lined up. The only markings that aren't perfect are the ones on the camshaft, as many others have noticed on theirs. But I took pictures of where they sat and its was exactly where it was at before I took it apart.

Also, I hear a slight knock when I turn the crank, but it sounds as if it comes from inside the engine, not from where the valves are.

I think I covered everything. A long post, huh.
