Could be the DI. Could be the Crank Position Sensor - they can get weird when warmed up. Depending on the car year, it could be the main pulley (harmonic balancer) - earlier cars had the shutter wheel for the CPS attached to the main pulley. Newer cars had the CPS on the side of the block.
I'd pull and inspect the plugs. Make sure they are the right kind, and properly gapped. See how they look - that can tell a lot. Flip the DI over, and remove the plastic cover - held on with about 8 torx screws. Look for signs of oil leaking out of the coils, signs of burning on the DI circuit board (yes, it is potted). Hold the DI up to a bright light - look through the coils. Each coil should be abut 90% full. If one is leaking, or low on fluid, replace it.
Of course, look for hoses off, cracked hoses, or other signs of something wrong. Follow electrical cables to make sure they're all connected, not frayed, or eaten by mice (don't ask me how I know.)
It could have been a lot of things. Don't immediately assume the expensive parts. However, I wouldn't own a Di-equipped car without having a spare DI.
