You need to run it a lot more than ten minutes. Transmission fluid takes a very long time to warm up and the level can vary quite a bit between cold and operating temperature. I live in MI where's it's relatively cool but even at the height of summer I'd want to run it at highway speed for at least a half an hour to get an accurate reading. In winter it's very difficult to get an accurate reading--it needs to be hot to the touch.
