Aero fronts seats front motor stripped????

I have a '95 Aero in great condition with the exception of the front seats. Recently my drivers seat decided to give up the ghost by losing all control on the front up-down axis. The danger is the seat can vary about 6 inches depending on how you accelerate or move your body, throwing you backward in a very disturbing way! I had been told that this symptom was due to a stripped gear (nylon) that turns on the end of this motor, but was told today that there might be other reasons for this. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what it will take to remedy this problem. You can take the front of the seat and move it up and down freely with minimal resistance. Looking under the seat you can see a triangular shaped cantalevier at the end of the motor moving up and down when the seat moves. All other functions except the heater work fine on this seat.
