my memory may be faulty, but, if i recall correctly, the frames for the motorized seat and the manual seat are completely different. while you can separate the seatback from the bottom section of a motorized seat, i do not think that this can be done with a manual one. an alternative would seem to be to simply swap the bottom skin of your current seat with that of the 88. however, be advised that the seat bottom skirt of your 96 seat is somewhat wider than those of pre 91 cars so it may not be an exact fit. ideally, you should find a manual seat from a 91 or later vehicle. failing that, you could have an upholsterer swap the skirt of the 96 with that of the 88 if fit is an issue. i don't know about you, but, i found the manual seat difficult to adjust to a comfortable position. a motorized seat can be adjusted to many more positions so i hope the switch to manual works for you.
