As Mysaab says - misleading Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Mon, 6 Apr 2009 03:31:00 In Reply to: Re: Needs a Camshaft Position Sensor for my CSE., Ken Fisher, Sun, 5 Apr 2009 20:58:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Fault codes are a first step in troubleshooting, not the final answer in what to replace.
Yes, a 0340 is listed as a Camshaft Position sensor in the manual, which shows how incorrect it can be - there is no Camshaft position sensor. However, elsewhere in the manual it calls it the Direct Ignition module.
What causes it? Bad spark plugs, bad misfire, bad DI. It can also be generated if the car doesn't start and you just keep cranking it (more than 5000 revolutions since last start).
As Mysaab says - replace the spark plugs with new NGKs, properly gapped. No Substitutions!
If that doesn't fix it, it can very likely be a bad DI. Not uncommon.
Real question - what are the symptoms? I assume the car starts, since dragging it to AutoZ would be hard. But how does it run? How does it start?
