No,there are no negative effects caused by switching from synthetic to conventional, or vice versa. Buy a quality name brand in the correct weight and change it at a reasonable interval (more frequently if conventional).
Do not waste your $$ on synthetic blend; most cost way too much for the little amount of synthetic blended in. Better to buy some of each and blend them yourself if you want to split the difference. No, mixing synthetic and conventional won't harm your engine either.
