Anders/Swedecar who posts regularly on this board has a photo (linked below) showing the latest Trionic 7(black) DIC sticker. If you look on the bottom left corner of the box there will be a 4 digit number. The first two indicate the year and the second two indicate what week of the year it was manufactured. This is for manufacture date by SEM, not the date it was installed on the vehicle.
For instance, 0134 would be the 34th week of 2001. 9850 would be the 50th week of 1998.
It wont go back much prior to 1990 as I believe 1989 was the first year the cassettes were installed on non US spec vehicles. This was using a system DI/APC prior to Trionic 5. They began in 1990 here in the US on 1990 2.0T engines.
