Just to let anyone interested know that i solved my problem and how. I didn't take the suggestion to tighten the head bolts - because i couldn't envision how it could cure the problem and could anticpate ways it could hurt. I decided to use an additive to the cooling system - i've owned cars for almost 50 years and have never believed in coolant or oil additives - but in this situation i had nothing to lose. So i did some research with folks in the business and all roads led to Bar's Leak. They have two products targeted to head gasket repair - one that is incompatible with glycol(about $10), requiring purging of cooling system to use, and the other is compatible with glycol (about $30)) - you just add - and follow simple directions on the container. Well, I spent my $30 and went from adding about a quart every 100 miles to haven't lost a drop of coolant in the month since using Bar's Leak - and no complications or adverse reactions. I think many factors contributed to it working for me, i.e., i think my situation is where that product works best - i hand no mixing of oil and coolant, no coolant into combustion chamber, and no overheating. Totally impressed. Just thought folks might like to know.
