Having done this a few times, I strongly vote for removing the mount and bringing it to a shop to have the old bushing pressed out and the new one pressed in. I've used the tool, and have had mixed results. When it works, it works great. When it doesn't, it turns into a very bad day.
As Simon says, you don't need to remove the alternator, just the upper bolt and tilt it back on the lower bolt as a pivot. Yes, the car will be down while the shop does it work.
