I think it was "davidk" who posted it. I did it this way a couple of weeks ago and it worked fine. Yes the sheet metal under the hood does not look exactly right if you look at it closely, but it's no big deal and a whole lot better than the alternative of removing the radiator, intercooler and condenser.
I was intrigued by somebody's suggestion of removing the bottom half of the fan guard and rotating the replacement fan in place, but getting the old fan out was still a problem with this method. I figured I would risk puncturing the condenser trying to cut the old fan up to get it out.
