A week ago the car was running fine, next morning it gave me a check engine and would not take heavy acceleration. I drove it like that for a week (500 km or 300 mi) and I had to be easier and easier on the throttle pedal (the engine would "starve" if I pressed the throttle enough to get some turbo pressure).
2 days ago I barely made it back home...I barely couldn't touch throttle or engine would die. Checked the OBD II code and it said it is my MAP sensor. I changed it and cleared the code. Car still won't start.
Changes my spark plugs (NGK BCPR-7ES, 0.038" gap).
If I shoot some brake cleaner in the intake, car starts and runs fine(as long as my nephew keeps shooting brake cleaner in the intake).
I have a '96 Aero in the driveway for parts.
I am now leaning towards the fuel pressure regulator but they are different between a '96 aero and my '97 aero.
Fuel pump is new (6000 mi).
Fuel pumps runs when I turn the ignition on (I can hear it).
There is fuel pressure at the fuel rail (crack the banjo bolt and some fuel coming out under pressure) but is there enough? (I don't have a gauge).
Will check if there is a signal at my injectors next.
Ruled out the DI cassette (tried a known good one).
It does spark as the engine runs whith brake cleaner so it has to be fuel related...
I don't believe in a clogged fuel filter...
Any idea / suggestion as to what to check next?
Thanks
