BPC valve question

I'm stuck on base boost (it's pretty pathetic), so tonight I cleaned my BPC valve. I have yet to test it out. Question is - how airtight should each of the two circuits through the BPC be? During rinsing (I used Formula 409, then water rinse, then alcohol, then carb cleaner), with vinyl tubing attached to each of the 3 ports, I could blow into the center port and predominantly get flow out of only one side, depending on which way I had the solenoid switched, but there would also be a bit of bubbling out the other side. And when I added my rinse solution to the middle port, it would quickly appear on one side, but then also slowly on the other. So clearly there is some side to side leakage. Is that OK? Or is it time to call eeuroparts...again?
BTW, I found that a 9V battery is great for switching the solenoid back and forth. I found a 9V battery snap connection canabalized out of some electronic gizmo, which made it very easy. One word of caution, however - if you're using non-chlorinated carb cleaner, make sure you get all of it to evaporate from the surface of the BPC valve before you switch the solenoid, as there's a spark. And no, I didn't learn the hard way. Thanks.
