First, I've not driven a 9K Aero, but I agree the mystique is probably greater than the reality.
I have a '96 CSE with the Aero suspension (the Sachs Sport Chassis kit, no longer available) and the ECU from a '98 5-speed 9K, which is the same as in a 5-speed Aero. This gives me maybe 210 hp and a bit more torque than the 238 lbs/ft of a stock CSE. The power curve is a bit different than with the stock CSE ECU, but there's plenty of poke pretty much whenever I need it, especially in the mid-range (3,000 to 5,000 rpm in any gear). The car is definitely faster than it was before the change. Same as an Aero? No, but I don't street race so it's kinda irrelevant.
The different turbo in the Aero (the TD-04) is the big difference, but one can get equal or greater power out of the Garrett T25 with an ECU remapping. I'm probably seeing 210 in my car versus 200. Would I like a TD-04? Sure, but I'm OK with what I have and the suspension is what I get more kicks out of, especially on a track day or my favorite empty roads.
I'd guess that the Aero suspension is about 10% firmer than the CSE, but the 10mm lower stance of the car is irrelevant, IMHO. I have SAS 25mm sway bars front and back. These make a huge difference and make the handling MUCH better than the stock Aero set up.
The Aero seats are what I'd really like and I may try to pick up a set, and would even put news hides on them if needed. But it's not high on my list of needs versus wants as the stock seats are fine. The Recaros would be nice on the track, though.
Just my $0.02.
