I'm not identifying wear or visible issues in the couple of shock units that I've had across my bench. Given the $200 cost for essentially 2 ali tubes..what visible wear evidence should one be watching out for on these things ?
Also found that prying off the Pulleys' (either) rubber bearing seals is quite easy and non damaging to them. If the pulley face is still in reasonably decent condition, the Ball bearing race can be washed and re packed to good effect, as long as it has no obvious noises or grit feel after a good clean prior to re greasing. Saved my buying a few of the rascals over the last 10 years.
Clearly such effort is wasted in a shop situation where time, money and liabilities outweighs the possible benefits.
But, If congenitally frugal and have the time ?
