Consider that some cars that weigh about the same as a Saab have larger brakes and shorter stopping distances, size does matter. Larger rotors and pads increase the swept area--total surface area where the clamping force is applied. That increases the amount of friction that slows the wheel,so the wheel is slowed more quickly. Bigger calipers with multiple pistons apply the hydraulic force of the brake fluid more effectively. So bigger brakes *will* stop a car faster. But...
it's a matter of degree, and how much it's worth to you. If $2000+ worth of big rotors, calipers and pads stop you say, 5% better is that worth it? Is it something that makes real a difference in normal day-to-day use? Especially given the ratio of cost of big brakes to the value of a used Saab 9K.
And since it's the tires that really do the work, stickier ones, as Dennis notes, make a bigger difference. And there are stickier pad compounds available beyond the usual street car options.
But for normal and even track driving, the brakes on a Saab 9K work fine.
