Back to 9000 after a year! (and some questions)

A year after my '95's early demise, it looks like I'll be back in a 9000. They're so hard to find anymore! The "new" one's an '89 S, not quite the same as the 95 turbo but fast, roomy and cheap enough.
A couple of questions...
There's a battery drain. It seems like the ignition thinks they key is still in even when it's not (for example the door chime dings when you open the door even though they key isn't in). There had been some previous work done on the keyed ignition switch (I think they replaced the electrical portion of it at some time but I'll confirm when I get the records); maybe something isn't right with that?
Is there a "best" way to disconnect the factory alarm? The PO mentioned it acting strangely and I'd rather just avoid any problems with that.
How hard is it to replace the crank position sensor? I looked in the Haynes book and it described removing the inlet manifold and bunsh of other stuff to get to it. And I did see the recent post on splicing in a cheaper part (thanks!).
Other than some cosmetic problems, it should be an OK car. The PO's family got it new in Sweden and it's got the roof rack and snow wheels and all the mats. It just needs a new home which it has now!
